On 7/25/23 shortly after 3:30 AM Lodi Police Officer Hartmann observed a 2004 Blue Cadillac Deville enter the City of Lodi on STH 60 / Water St from the West. The vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed and no taillights were visible. The vehicle continued Eastbound through the City on STH 60 at a high rate of speed.
When Officer Hartmann attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled. The vehicle was traveling at speeds more than 100 mph. The vehicle crashed in the construction zone at STH 60 and I-39/90/94.
Two male subjects fled on foot leaving behind a 16-year-old juvenile female who had a minor injury. The female juvenile was transported to UW hospital for treatment. The vehicle involved was initially reported stolen but later it was discovered that the owners 17-year-old son was the driver.
The two males that fled were located at their residence in the City of Madison. The driver Rufus L Wilson age 17 of Madison was taken into custody. Wilson was transported to the Columbia County jail and was arrested for knowingly fleeing and attempting to elude a law officer, Reckless driving, and speeding. A 16-year-old male was referred for charges to juvenile authorities in Dane County for resisting and obstructing.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, DeForest Police Department, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Police Department, Arlington Fire and EMS, Lodi Fire and EMS and Lodi Shell Towing assisted the Lodi Police during this incident.
