Hi.
On January 1st, 2022, the Lodi Valley Chronicle went silent.
A Limited Reopening
The Lodi Valley Chronicle is resuming publishing–in a limited capacity. I’m not able to pursue all the stories that need to be reported, but I can still report on things quicker than the traditional print media–and I can do it for free.
One Place for Area News.
While I haven’t been pursuing news, I am still signed up to receive news releases from several government sources. It’s easy for me to pass these along to people who may not see them elsewhere. These sources inclue the office of the Governor (politics) and the DOT (road closings, etc.), and a couple business groups. I receive notices from the City of Lodi, and can look into what options the other area municipalities have for sharing information.
I can also post notices as to why flags are at half-staff (thanks to an amazing app that keeps track of this across the entire US).
I think these are things that are worth passing along. And, to be very honest, they don’t require any effort from me. So… I’ll start posting them (with clear labels that they are press releases, not investigated news).
The idea is to have the Chronicle be a single source to share information from multiple sources, so you don’t have to go looking for it.
Community Voices
While the Chronicle was publishing regularly, we had several influential community members who contributed columns. I will be reaching out to them to see if they are willing to do so again. And I will be looking for more people who might be willing to contribute. If you know of anyone in Lodi that might have things to share, let me know. I’m willing to consider just about anyone, but I will only publish those who adhere to our editorial guidelines. I will not let the Chronicle become a platform for extremism from any side.
Community Stories
Why the return?
You.
Over the past year an a half–despite clearly stating that the Chronicle was closed–I have received quite a few e-mails asking me to look into, research, and write about things that are happening in Lodi. This past week I received a request that I simply couldn’t say no to (that story will come in October).
And so… We’re back.
Limits
Previously, stories would automatically post to Twitter as a link. That feature will no longer exist. The mechanism that allowed that has been blocked by Twitter.
I do however, have the Sunday Edition. Sign up, and get all the news from the week delivered to your inbox bright an early on Sunday morning. Go to the front page, and enter your e-mail address in the sign-up form.
