In the most recent newsletter from the Lodi Public Library, Director Alex Le Clair explains the decision behind the Library’s mask policy:
I want to end on a note about masking. The library board discussed this and there were different opinions, but ultimately it was my decision, and I decided to make masks mandatory in the building. I don’t feel certain about it, but if you’re wondering about my thinking, here it is.The new Delta variant is extremely contagious and in some ways represents a new pandemic or at least a new stage that has to be taken seriously. A new health model predicts 100,000 more U.S. deaths by December 1. But it’s not just about death, as a recent study shows that half of participants have at least one lingering symptom a year after catching COVID. There’s also been a recent wave of young patients struggling to breathe. The best thing that people can do is get vaccinated.I’m fully vaccinated and I don’t like wearing a mask, but as the cases in Columbia County kept going up, I made the decision for masks to be mandatory inside. This is easily my least favorite time in my nearly five years as a library director and it’s put me in a very reflective mood. As always, I’m grateful for all the people in town sharing their thoughts.
