Big Junk Day
“Big Junk Day” (officially called Citywide Spring Cleanup) for the city of Lodi is in two weeks. If you’re looking to get rid of stuff that’s too big to fit in your trash bin, that Wednesday is the time to do it.
On Wednesday, June 16th, the City of Lodi will collect any large items you want to get rid of. This includes furniture, appliances, and other large items. Items may be placed on the curbside on Tuesday.
Editor’s Note: We encourage you to place your items out on the curbside early on Tuesday. A lot of what you want to get rid of may be useful to others.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
If we can keep things out of our landfill and help others at the same time, that’s a win-win.
The following Saturday, June 19th from 8:00 am to 11:00 am is the Electronic Recycling event. Bring old electronics and appliances to the Public Works Shop (on Hwy 60 across from the Canning Factory) and get rid of them safely. There is a charge for some electronics such as computer monitors and televisions, but many electronics are free.
Electronic equipment contains elements such as chromium, cadmium, mercury and lead which can leech into the soil and ground water if they’re put in a landfill. Recycling them not only protects our drinking water (and out wonder lakes and streams), but reduces the need for mining new materials.
