On Wednesday evening, the Lodi Common Council swore in the newest member of the Lodi Police Department, Officer Daniel Monson.
A Waunakee native, Monson fills the position that has been empty since before Chief Smith took over the department. The department’s roster now stands at 6 full-time officers–including Chief Smith and Lt. Nichols–one part time officer, and one administrative assistant.
A graduate of MATC, this is Monson’s first full-time position in law enforcement, though he has a year and a half of experience working with the Fall River and Rio police departments. At just 21 years old, Monson hopes that his young age will be a benefit for working with students and young members of the community. Unlike other young officers who often see small towns as a jumping-off point where they can gain experience before heading to larger, more exciting, cities, Monson prefers the quieter life of the small town, and expects to stay in Lodi for the long haul.
