Nicholas Karls Named Director of Curriculum and Instruction

The School District of Lodi Board of Education approved Dr. Nicholas Karls as the new Director of Curriculum and Instruction at their April 27, 2020 meeting. On July 1, 2020, Dr. Karls will start his official duties.

Dr. Karls was selected from 25 applicants. Staff members from each of the schools in the district, administrative staff, and Board members participated in the two rounds of interviews which resulted in his selection. Dr. Karls has a strong background in teaching and instruction and is seen as a leader in instructional leadership in the area.

Dr. Karls has 14 years experience in education and administration in the Baraboo School District. He spent seven (7) years teaching 3rd grade at Gordon L. Wilson Elementary School prior to becoming that school’s principal in 2013. In 2016 he moved into a district level leadership position when he became the Director of Teaching and Learning and will remain in that position until he starts in Lodi on July 1, 2020.

Dr. Karls is a graduate of Lodi High School and currently lives in the School District of Lodi.

Dr. Karls has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Elementary and Middle level education with a minor in Health, earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Professional Development through the University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse, earned his administrative licensure through Viterbo University, and earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership through Edgewood College.
