Wine Bar Gets a Face Lift

La Grotta sull’ Acqua–more commonly referred to as “the Wine Bar”–is getting a face lift.

La Grotta–the only business in Wisconsin to span running water–has been undergoing a few cosmetic changes.  Proprietor Kathy Ziegler and her partner Mark Ratto have been working on sprucing up the facade of the building.  They have been doing the vast majority of the work themselves, but have enlisted the services of local artist Dean Allen of D2 studios on Lodi St. to assist with a “special something” that they’re currently keeping under wraps.

Since moving their business from the basement of the former City Hall next door, Kathy and Mark have invested a lot of time and money into turning the building into a distinct and welcoming space on Main Street.

Prior to the La Grotta setting up residence, the building was home to the local American Family Insurance office.  And previous to that it was the 2nd iteration of the Downtown Cafe–an updated version of the original Downtown Cafe that was a cornerstone of the community in the 1970’s and 80’s1Both versions of the Downtown Cafe were home to “the Farmers’ Table”–a long table where local farmers (and others) would sit down and discuss the news of the day..\

La Grotta sull’ Acqua is open Thursday through Saturday nights, from 5:00pm to 10:00pm (hours may vary).
