1The Colsac III (the Merrimac Ferry) will shut down for the season on November 18th. The last crossing of the season will be at 9am that morning.
While the ferry often runs until it can no longer safely cross the iced-over river, it has a scheduled closing this year so it can undergo long-term maintenance. Crews will be repairing and replacing key mechanical systems on the 153-ton ferry to keep it up to spec for hauling up to 1,200 vehicles per day. It will also be getting a fresh coat of paint (presumably in the very familiar pale-yellow with red highlights).
This article originally listed the closing time at night. It has been corrected.
