Lodi Police Recover Stolen Car, Apprehend Suspect

Aaron J Kotzer

On Wednesday evening, Lodi Police, assisted by Columbia County and Sauk County Sheriff’s Offices, pursued and stopped a stolen Chevy Malibu.  The driver–identified as Aaron J Kotzer, 30–was arrested the following morning in connection to the incident, and pursuant to an existing Department of Corrections Warrant.

The incident started around 10:15pm when Lodi Police received a report of a stolen 2016 Chevy Malibu taken from within the city limits.  Just before midnight, the vehicle was spotted entering the city.  Officers unsuccessfully attempted to stop the vehicle.  A 5-mile “slow-speed pursuit” ensued.

The vehicle was slowed down through the assistance of OnStar services.  Kotzer exite the moving vehicle during the deceleration and fled. He was located and arrested in the area of the stop the following morning at 10:33.

In addition to charges resulting from the auto theft and subsequent chase, Kotzer was wanted for 2 counts of felony bail jumping, theft, and the DoC warrant.

There were no injuries, and only minor damage to the stolen car.
